LAVENDER SENSE Newsletter - October 2011

We hope you have enjoyed this beautiful summer. As we move into the next season, we can now look forward to the beautiful fall colors and hopefully an Indian summer with warm, balmy days before we see the ‘white stuff’.

Our lavender was thriving again this summer which brought an abundant harvest and hundreds of people to pick-your-own lavender. The sweet-smelling floral scents filled the air to the benefit of our daily visitors, retreat guests and neighbours.

It has been another tremendous season for LAVENDER SENSE. This year we have already welcomed more people than last year and we are thrilled with the return of many loyal visitors.

Post-season and after hours visits may be scheduled by appointment – just call 519 762 2188 to arrange for a mutually convenient time. Bed & Breakfast Retreats are available year round by reservation.

In this issue you can read a bit about what lavender essential oil can do for your well-being and explore its culinary qualities as well. We hope the articles will inspire you to become better acquainted with the merits and use of this gift from nature.

The goal of LAVENDER SENSE News is to inform, inspire, educate and entertain (read more below).

LAVENDER SENSE is a family business. In essence, our business is about well-being, romance and fine living.

We believe, we are in the best business in world as we enjoy sharing our property and growing, crafting and offering lavender products to our customers near and far.

We are committed to our community and to supporting and encouraging others to live in harmony and peace in a world that often overwhelms and overlooks the need for tolerance, compassion and appreciation.

We invite you to visit us, walk the land, browse the Boutique, take in the awesome beauty of the trailed Carolinian forest or just sit around and enjoy the peace and quiet. Additionally, we invite you to check out our ‘Activities & Events Schedule’ or book a stay at our B&B Guest Retreat for a night or more.

Health Benefits of Lavender

Lavender is truly a gift from nature. The plants and flowers look great, smell lovely and have many practical uses. We believe, the alluring scent of lavender is an amazing gift in itself, but the real value is found in its value to soothe, heal, relax and flavour and more. The more familiar you about these qualities the more benefits you will enjoy.

Lavender essential oil is one of the few essential oils which can be applied directly to the skin. It is anti-inflammatory; anti-spasmodic; anti-bacterial; anti-fungal; anti-septic; anti-toxic and anti-viral.

Lavender’s antiseptic and antifungal properties provide excellent benefits to the skin health. It can be used to heal wounds, cuts, and burns. Skin ailments like acne, psoriasis and various types of skin inflammations can be lightened and even treated with lavender essential oil.

Various types of pain caused by sore and tense muscles, sprains, and bruises can be relieved with lavender. It is also effective in reducing joint pain. Massaging the body with lavender essential oil is the best way to combat body pain.

This essential oil is effective in inducing sleep and thus used to alleviate insomnia.

Note: Lavender oil is one of the most useful and safest essential oils available. We always recommend that it is used carefully and sparingly and in the event of skin sensitivity or irritation it should be discontinued. It is always advisable to see a qualified physician, aroma therapist or homeopath before starting any treatment.
